Allan
(Director)
I have been walking and cycling the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK from a young age and love being in the outdoor environment.
As an civilian and adventurous training instructor with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets for over 30 years, I have enjoyed passing on this passion to countless young people, through climbing, mountain biking, walking and skiing to name but a few of my qualifications.

I have trained, supervised and assessed many Duke of Edinburgh Award groups over the years and still do my own personal walking and MTB'ing regularly.
I am currently an active member for a Search and Rescue team and instruct and assess both Navigation Skills and Mountain Bike Skills courses.
Anita, Al and I have been friends for many years and Adam is my son! We all really want to share that love of the outdoors and show people how to do so safely. Navigating in the Lowlands, Hills and Moorlands with a map and compass is a skill that all can master and makes for an enjoyable and safe outdoor experience.

As a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, I love to teach and have a passion to share my knowledge and experience with others. I love to see the sense of achievement people get from learning new skills especially when they have that “light bulb” moment!

Personally, I have never been one to say no to a new challenge, whether it be cycling from Land End to John O’Groats, learning to rock climb or skulling on the Thames to name a few. Trying new things and pushing myself to learn new skills has led to some amazing adventures.

Although I was introduced to walking relatively late, I have been hooked ever since. I have gone on to train as a Lowland leader and NNAS instructor and continue to challenge myself in Hill and Moorland territory and beyond.

I am currently part of the navigation team with London Search & Rescue, delivering training to search technicians. I also teach navigation, climbing skills and sports to RAF Air Cadets.

Creating Inspiration Outdoors with Al and Allan has given us the opportunity to join all our skills and experience together, enabling us to strive to inspire others, creating a community where new skills can be taught, friendships can be formed and adventures can be made possible.

I first started venturing outdoors as a young teenager with the RAF Air Cadets, taking up any opportunity to try out the various adventurous activities offered. This passion took me on expedition to the likes of Borneo, Mongolia, Ghana, Ecuador, travelling around the Far East and completing the Mongol Rally in 2014.
I’ve been instructing young people for 15 years in navigation and hill walking and dozens of Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions as a leader and assessor. In September 2019, I took my professional qualifications to the next level and qualified as a Mountain Leader on the stunning Isle of Rùm of the Inner Hebrides.
I am still active as an Adventure Training Officer with the RAF Air Cadets in North London, Navigation Training lead for a Search & Rescue team and a National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) course director. I also volunteer on the Board of Trustees with the Young Explorers’ Trust.
I have known Anita and Allan for a long time and our love for the outdoors and our city has brought us together to share our passion with others through Inspiration Outdoors. We aspire to help people discover the environment around them through new eyes and introduce them to new skills and experiences.

I was introduced to the great outdoors at a very young age. This was helped as my family also loved getting outside, taking me on trips away walking up mountains and even cycling to other countries.

I first started to get qualified as an instructor in various activities including walking, rock climbing, canoeing and skiing with the RAF Air Cadets. I was involved in many adventure training camps taking young people away from the busy city and experiencing the open air, some for the first time.

I am still an active member of the RAF Air Cadets, helping out with various activities, mainly across West London. I also help out other youth groups including the Army Cadets and Volunteer Police Cadets. I also assist in teaching Search and Rescue teams navigation and mountain bike skills. I have recently started working at an activity camp near to me, taking groups of young people and school children to experience loads of new adventurous activities.

I met Anita and Al through the RAF Air Cadets. Allan a little bit longer.................! I look forward to teaching people new skills that will hopefully start them with the same positive addiction to the outdoors that I have.
